1. Mindful breathing

  1. Let your shoulders drop and feel the breath where it is easiest: nose, chest or belly.
  2. Breathe in for four and out for six. Repeat five times.
  3. When you drift, notice it and come back. Noticing is the exercise.

2. Body scan

Lie down or sit. Move your attention slowly from the feet to the head, pausing at the calves, thighs, belly, hands, shoulders, jaw and forehead. At each place, let the muscles soften as you breathe out.

3. 5-4-3-2-1 grounding

Name five things you can see, four you can feel, three you can hear, two you can smell and one you can taste. It brings attention out of racing thoughts and into the room.

4. Mindful walking

Walk a little slower than usual. Feel each heel touch the ground and each foot lift. When thoughts take over, return to the feet.

5. Resting in awareness

Sit quietly and notice the sounds, the breath and the thoughts. Then notice that something is aware of all of it. Instead of holding your attention on anything, rest there for a minute. This is the practice Restful Awareness is built on.

Make it a habit

Attach one exercise to something you already do, such as the first coffee or brushing your teeth. A bell reminder or a guided session in the app can carry you through the first weeks.
